Way back when…

Sunday morning and I am reminiscing – I am meant to writing up my audit project but I am easily distracted and the number crunching is hurting my brain.

For some reason I reminded of these two Kylie Minogue songs from two very different times in my life.

Wouldn’t Change A Thing

I-I-I I wouldn’t change

Some people don’t understand
What I see in you
If only they knew
They think my head’s in the sand
They’ll never see
The best side of you
Is my heart ruling my mind
Maybe I’m not right every time
But I know I’m right about this love of mine

[CHORUS:]
If I had to do it all again
I wouldn’t change a single thing
There’s no questioning in my heart
When it comes to our love
I wouldn’t change a thing

Yeah, I’ve had my doubts
My ups and downs
On the merry-go-round
They say my heads in the cloud
But I’m keeping one
Foot on the ground
I know they say love is blind
But he’s the best thing that happened to me
And I’m not ashamed for the world to see

[CHORUS:]

I-I-I I wouldn’t change

Is my heart ruling my mind
Maybe I’m not right on every thing
But I know I’m right about this love of mine

[CHORUS:]
[repeat & fade

This song I heard all the way through the summer of 1989 – a lovely carfree summer of a 13 year old. It reminds me of endless summer days – sitting in the garden and singing along to the music in my head. It reminds me of waking up early in the morning to watching children’s TV with my four siblings while we ate breakfast – always rushing to be the first to get the toy gift out of the newly opened Rice Krispies packet.

It’s only today that I stopped to look at the lyrics of the song I had been singing innocently all those years ago. And it struck me how they struck a cord with my current existence – funny….

The other Kylie song that flew into my head was

Love at First Sight

Thought that I was going crazy
Just havin’ one those days yea
Didn’t know what to do
Then there was you

And everything went from wrong to right
And the stars came out to fill up the sky
The music you were playin’ really blew my mind
It was love at first sight

‘Cause baby when I heard you
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one

I was tired of running out of luck
Thinkin’ ’bout giving up, yea
Didn’t know what to do
Then there was you

And everything went from wrong to right
And the stars came out to fill up the sky
The music you were playin’ really blew my mind
It was love at first sight
(Love)

‘Cause baby when I heard you
(When I heard)
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one
(To be as one)

‘Cause baby when I heard you
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one

Everythin’ went from wrong to right
And the stars came out and filled up the sky
(Up the sky)
The music you were playin’ really blew my mind
It was love at first sight
(Love)
Love at first sight
Love at first sight
Love
Ooh, it was love, it was love at first sight

‘Cause baby when I heard you
(When I heard)
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one
(To be as one)

‘Cause baby when I heard you
(When I heard)
For the first time I knew
We were meant to be as one

It was love, it was love, it was love, it was love
Oohh, it was love, it was love, it was love, it was love
Oohh, it was love, it was love, it was love, it was love

I cannot say I particularly relate to any of the lyrics in this song either then or now! However it takes me back – circa 2001. I was an exhausted SHO commuting on 4 buses in the rain and dark to and from work and wondering when I was going to met the love of my life. In the meantime studying hard for membership exams and battling with long, hectic on calls. I used to find peace and quite amongst the chaos, in the three minutes it took for the bilirubinometer to spin my carefully taken samples into the red and gold divide. I would just sit, close my eyes and breathe slowly and deeply.

Anyway – I need to go back to the audit.

Ciao
