Weekly writing challenge: Backwards

You can start at the end, and then lead us straight back to a traditionally ordered sequence of events (it worked for Citizen Kane). Or you can give us the full Memento treatment and take us backward one step at a time to the very origin of your story. Whatever works: just hook your readers with a powerful conclusion (that comes first!), and then captivate them with the story of how it came to pass.

It’s good to talk…?

Hi Helen

So glad to hear that my speaking so candidly was so damned funny. (I think there might be a touch of sarcasm in there in case it’s not obvious). Well hey, if nothing else, at least me speaking so openly is so damned hilarious. Can you at least then tell me why it was so funny and why you can’t stop laughing? You might as well tell me in an email because I can’t see that we’ll be meeting up again any time soon.

Well, despite all that, I do hope you’re well and everything’s fine for you.

Jim.

Well glad to hear you have been doing stuff – useful stuff.

As for the rest of the stuff in you e-mail – well I can only say it has made me laugh this afternoon. If I ever meet you again I might tell you why. Life has a funny way of doing things to the mind. I can’t stop laughing. In the mean time – you take care. Keep doing the good stuff. I am glad some people have a social conciensce (excuse the truely awful spelling!). If it makes you happy – go with it.

Hi Helen

Hope you’re keeping v well, and all’s going well with your new job! Next Tuesday sounds good. I guess then we need to discuss a definitive where and a when! How about upstairs at The Rose and Crown just opposite Nexly station? I can be there by 7pm. Please do let me know if that’s okay for you!

Also, how will I recognise you?!! You never had a piccie on the profile on the Website; is there any chance that you could send me one beforehand, so that I know to look out for you?

take v good care

Jim

Hi

Hope you’re v well. Thanks; hopefully I’ll recognise you! I guess you kinda know what I look like from the piccies I had up on the website!

The Rose and Crown has changed a lot since 1990! They’ve redesigned it internally a couple of times since then! Upstairs is best because it doesn’t get crowded and it’s non-smoking up there so more pleasant to breathe too! :-))

What time do you think you’ll be able to get there? Is 7pm good for you? I know you must work some v long hours much of the time!

take v good care

Jim.

Hey

hope you remain well.

No I don’t have a picture – but I am not easy to miss. I would probably look very out of place. Or maybe not – haven’t been to the Rose and Crown in many many years. I am short and brunette. My hair is in cut into a bob and I will probably have a little pink bag. There is not much more to say than that. The Rose and Crown sounds OK. The 1st and last time I was ever there was the day we finished our last ‘A’ level exams – ?1990. A long time ago!!!!!

Hmm. Anyway take care.

Helen
