Daily prompt : Pour Some Sugar on Me

Childhood memories…

What is your favorite sweet thing to eat? Bread pudding? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? A smooth and creamy piece of cheesecake? Tell us all about the anticipation and delight of eating your favorite dessert. Not into sweets? Tell us all about your weakness for that certain salty snack.

Where do I start…

I do not think I can be pinned down to one food item – I like too many!

1. Akara and custard. My mouth is watering as I think about this. The savoury, sweet combination is delicious. So far my mother is the only person that I know that makes perfect akara. I have tried and the results have been variable. I have a not so dissimilar feeling about Moi moi and custard – lol – I even started a Facebook group but only I joined…! Akara and moi moi are normally consumed at home at Christmas and birthdays. Therefore by default, always taste good and come with good memories.

2. ‘Eggy’ pudding. My mother would make this combination of egg, sugar and milk for us – delicious. Reminds me of the time when we would sit patiently at the dinning table in the newly refurnished dining room. Those where the days…

3. Rice pudding. Creamy and comforting, the stuff of winter holidays…

4. Basel cookies aka The Basler Leckerli. The Basler Läckerli is a hard biscuit made of honey, almonds, candied peel and Kirsch. I bought these as a gift for my work colleagues during my recent trip to Switzerland. They are delicious. I have found a recipe on the ‘tinter net’ and I will be trying it out in the next few weeks.

Although I do a lot of home baking – this is mostly for the benefit of others. Now that I have put my mind to it – I cannot think of anything that I have baked that I would consider my favourite thing to eat.
