Where’s my chair?

Things that I have learnt today

  1. Being a parent of an autistic child has it joys but it sure has some challenges.

  2. Teachers and assistants in special schools are amazing.

Another day of diagnosing and giving feedback. This time an observation in a specialist setting. It has been a while since I have set foot outside my safe clinic room and even longer since I have been in a school. Which of course seems at odds with my job title but currently that’s the way it has been.

It was, I felt, an extremely productive morning. Not only did I get to observe the child in the school setting but I got to understand just how hard the school staff work to keep things in order. They are an amazing team. I have a better understanding of the classroom dynamics in a way that will not always come through from the gazillions of reports that I read on a daily basis. Like putting a face to a name. I have now seen my first interactive whiteboard. I have seen iPads used in ways I never thought they could be. I have have been pulled into 21st century schooling.
